I’m Ron founder of Survival Readiness and this is a little bit about me. I have been into Preparedness/Readiness most of my life. My interest in it began in August of 1992 when Hurricane Andrew hit here in South Florida. That was my first experience with a disaster situation and it left a lasting impression on me. I was only 12 years old at the time and was shocked by the devastation a storm could cause.
The morning after the storm I got on my bike and rode around our neighborhood and saw all the damage done, with trees down blocking the streets and homes. I returned to my house and got my dad’s chainsaw and went to help our neighbors clear the streets and driveways around the area.
Everyone was so grateful for the help and most of them gave me a nice tip for helping out. By the end of the day I had a couple hundred bucks in my pocket and for a kid in 1992 that was a lot of money! You would think a kids first instinct would be to blow that money on video games or something similar but no. I took that money and went to the convenience store by my house and bought canned goods and stuff for my family. I saw the devastation Andrew had did to our city and knew it would be a while before any help would be coming.
Fast forward eight years later, after I graduated from school I applied for a job with a local municipality (city government) and I have been working there the last 23 years. I am a first responder, and CERT team member for disaster response. I have worked every Tropical Storm, Hurricane and natural disaster that have hit this area since 2000.
After starting my career, I started a family and have two wonderful children in my life. Part of having a family is being able to provide for them, and an important part of that is ensuing their safety and survival should a disaster or emergency ever arise. So I have made it a priority in my life to be prepared as possible, for any type of situation.
That being said, I have seen the pitfalls to government response in disaster situations and felt the urge to create this site. My vision for this site is to assist people in preparation for any type of emergency or disaster that may strike, aka Survival Readiness.
